GHD Sky Sign Replacement Perth
Over a Decade ofCraftsmanship with GHD
Then & Now: Over a Decade of Craftsmanship with GHD
Some signage projects are about creating something new. Others tell a much bigger story.
As The Factory completes the latest GHD sky sign replacement in the Perth CBD, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to where this project began more than a decade ago.
It’s a project that brings together long-lasting signage, an evolving global brand, complex installation requirements and, most importantly, a relationship that has continued for more than 10 years.
Back to 2015:Where It All Began
In 2015, The Factory was selected to manufacture, project manage and install GHD’s original sky signage at its six-storey commercial building in the Perth CBD.
This was no ordinary building signage project.
The scope involved three enormous illuminated lightbox signs, positioned high on the building and designed to give the GHD brand a commanding presence across the surrounding cityscape.
From manufacturing through to installation, our team managed the project with careful consideration given to the scale of the signage, its elevated location and the logistics involved in delivering such a significant commercial signage installation.
Once installed, the distinctive blue GHD signs quickly became a familiar feature of the building.
For more than a decade, they have stood above the Perth skyline, visible to thousands of commuters travelling along the freeway and through the CBD every day.
More Than 10 Years Above the Perth Skyline
Good commercial signage needs to do more than look impressive on installation day.
It needs to perform.
Exposure to Perth’s sun, wind, rain and changing weather conditions can place significant demands on external building signage – particularly signage installed several storeys above ground.
The original GHD sky signs remained in place for more than 10 years, continuing to provide prominent brand visibility throughout that time.
For us, seeing signage manufactured and installed by our team still performing more than a decade later is something we’re incredibly proud of.
But brands evolve – and eventually, their signage needs to evolve with them.
A New Era for the GHD Brand
In 2021, GHD introduced its evolved brand identity, moving away from its recognisable blue branding towards a sophisticated black and white palette.
The transformation created a strong, contemporary identity for the business.
And with such prominent signage forming part of GHD’s physical presence in Perth, the building was ready to reflect that evolution too.
Fast forward to today, and The Factory has once again been entrusted with delivering the next generation of GHD’s Perth sky signage.
The familiar blue signs are making way for striking new black and white illuminated signage, bringing the building into line with GHD’s current brand while retaining the scale and visibility that made the original installation so recognisable.
Then & Now
2015 to today.
Blue to black and white.
The same building.
The same trusted signage partner.
And even some of the same people behind the project.
That last part makes this project particularly special to our team.
More than a decade after the original installation, several members of The Factory team who helped deliver the first GHD signs are still here, bringing their knowledge and experience to the replacement project.
A special mention goes to Darryl, our Senior Signage Installer, and David, our Senior Signage Consultant.
Both played an important role in the original project and, more than 10 years later, continue to support its next chapter.
Their involvement represents something we value enormously at The Factory: experience that stays within our business and is passed from one project—and one generation of signage—to the next.
Experience Matters When Sky Signage Gets Bigger
Large-scale building and sky signage requires much more than simply manufacturing a sign.
Projects of this nature can involve detailed site planning, engineering considerations, access requirements, installation methodology, electrical components, coordination with multiple stakeholders and careful project management.
When signage is positioned several storeys above a busy CBD, there is little room for compromise.
With over three decades of signage experience, The Factory has developed the capabilities to manage complex commercial signage projects from initial planning through to final installation.
Our capabilities include:
- Site audits and consultation
- Graphic design and elevation drawings
- Signage manufacturing
- Illuminated signage
- Building and sky signage
- Installation and access coordination
- Project management
- Quality assurance
Having these capabilities managed by one experienced team helps maintain consistency throughout the project and ensures the finished signage reflects both the brand and the environment in which it sits.
Signage Built on Lasting Relationships
There is something particularly rewarding about returning to a project more than a decade later.
It gives us an opportunity to see how our work has performed, recognise the people who helped make it happen and continue a relationship that began years earlier.
The GHD project is a reminder that great signage isn’t simply built to last.
It’s built on experience, craftsmanship, trusted partnerships and relationships that stand the test of time.
We’re proud to have played a part in GHD’s Perth presence since 2015—and even prouder to be helping bring its next chapter to life.
Here’s to another decade above the Perth skyline.
