Wayfinding & Interpretive Signage
Greenspace Project at QEII Medical Centre Campus
In a medical environment like the QEII Medical Centre Campus in Perth, the creation of a peaceful nature retreat is a welcome sight. Officially named Waalbiirniny Waabiny Boodja, the newly established Green Space project near the Perth Children’s Hospital is not just a place of respite but a sanctuary for staff, patients, and visitors alike.
This blog will showcase the Wayfinding and Interpretive Signage key elements, highlighting the Custom sign solutions.
Wayfinding & Interpretive Signage:
One of the key elements that elevate the experience within this nature haven is the custom signage strategically placed throughout the area. Collaborating with design experts from Hassell Studio and construction specialists from CDI Group, the implementation of Wayfinding and Interpretive Signage adds a layer of functionality and aesthetic appeal to the Green Space project.
A Wayfinding Extension:
Building upon the success of previous Wayfinding initiatives at the QEII Medical Centre Campus, the custom signage in the Green Space Project seamlessly integrates with existing signages, creating a cohesive visual identity across the campus. The thoughtful design and placement of these signs not only guide individuals through the space but also enhance the overall visitor experience.
Embracing Culture Through Custom Signs:
The custom signage integrated goes beyond mere Wayfinding; it serves as a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of the Noongar people. Designed with the utmost respect for the “healing energy of Country,” these signs not only guide visitors but also honour and restore the traditional knowledge and stories of the Traditional Owners.
By intricately weaving Noongar themes and storylines into the design process, the custom signage becomes a powerful medium for cultural expression. Through direct engagement with the history, stories, and culture of the Noongar people, the signs pay homage to the land’s indigenous roots and significance.
Symbolise Connections Through Signs:
One of the standout features of the custom signage is the incorporation of key elements that symbolise the connection to Noongar culture. The discovery path, aptly named Koodjal Noorn (two snakes), leads visitors on a journey of discovery, mirroring the wisdom and guidance of the ancestral spirits. Shelter pods dedicated to the six Noongar seasons reflect the cyclical nature of life and the deep connection to the land.
